John and Lynn met and married in Arlington, Texas in 1974, John was 23 and Lynn 17. They both created art before they met, which then turned into a shared passion and source of self-identification. Being environmentally minded, they began saving in order to purchase their own piece of land. This goal was accomplished in 1979 when they moved to their current residence in the Ouachita Mountains of western Arkansas. Living in Arkansas, John and Lynn raised their two daughters, Molly, born in Texas in 1978 and Mattie, born at their home in the Ouachitas in 1982. The family did without electricity for twenty six years, ten of those without running water. They finally decided to get electricity in 2000. Molly and Mattie grew up around their parents' drawing activities which made art second nature for them. John and Lynn never moved beyond pencil and paper because that was the only medium they could afford. This caused them to push drawings to a level in which the works were often referred to as "pencil paintings" when they began to show and compete around 1980. They did not produce any artwork for a period of ten years or so while they saw both Molly and Mattie through high school and college, always knowing they would one day get back into it. With their daughters grown and on their own, John and Lynn began to paint in 2006. Molly graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hendrix College in Conway, focus in art, and Mattie graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Both have been painting since they were in college. Molly has been producing realistic works including the occasional commissioned piece. Mattie has recently been doing more conceptual pieces. Although she still wants to incorporate traditional painting styles in her work, Mattie's heart really lies with the more experimental format.
