Mattie Speece and her husband Patrick Villines have been making music together  since  the summer of 2007. Pat has been playing  music   since  he was eleven years old and is adept at a variety of instruments and musical  styles.   In  2 00 7  he discovered Mattie had a unique and widely appealing singing voice.
Pat persuaded Mattie to pursue music with him and they have been working at it ever since.  Music  has taken  Mattie away somewhat from being able to pursue her visual art interests, but she is working on trying to achieve a balance between the two.
Mattie and Pat's music endeavors  began  in earnest in March of 2008. They submitted   a   song    for  the

annual   Talented Twenties talent competition on Garrison Keillor's popular NPR radio show A Prairie Home Companion
Much to their surprise, they were chosen to be one  of  the  six  finalists  out
of almost 1,000 entries from  across    the    nation .
 They
flew to St. Paul, Minnesota to perform on the live broadcast and placed second in the competition.   This   has set them on a path that has taken them to performing in a variety of venues.
Mattie is currently in the process  of   learning  to play rhythm guitar.  By doing so, this will enable Pat to showcase his abilities on various instruments, including the mandolin  and  fiddle, during live performances.
